What information we collect and why

Camping booking enquiries

When you complete the booking form we collect your first name, surname, telephone number, email address, the type of unit you are bringing, whether you want an electric hook-up, your arrival and departure dates, the number of adults and children, and any message you add. We use this to reply to your enquiry, manage your booking and arrange your stay. Our lawful basis is that this is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR).

General enquiries

When you use the contact form we collect your name, email address, telephone number and your message so that we can reply. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Article 6(1)(f)), or taking steps you have asked for before a booking.

Barnyard Buzz newsletter

If you sign up to the newsletter we collect your name, email address and the interest you select. We use these to send you the newsletter. Our lawful basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time by emailing us, and we will remove you from the list.

Blog comments

If you leave a comment on a blog post we collect the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address. Your name and comment may appear publicly on the page; your email address and IP address are not displayed. We use an anti-spam tool to filter spam comments. Our lawful basis is your consent and our legitimate interest in running a safe, spam-free website.

Website usage and analytics

With your consent only, we use Google Analytics (installed through Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are popular. This uses cookies and similar technologies and gives us aggregated statistics. If you do not accept statistics cookies, Google Analytics does not run. Our lawful basis is your consent.

Embedded content and spam protection

Some pages may include Google Maps, YouTube or Vimeo videos, social media content or Google reCAPTCHA. These services may set cookies and receive your IP address and device information. They are blocked until you give consent through our cookie banner. You can change your choices at any time using the cookie settings link on the site.

Security, performance and backups

To keep the website secure and working well we use a security firewall that processes visitors’ IP addresses to block malicious activity, and an image delivery service (ShortPixel) that receives your IP address and browser details when images are delivered to you. Copies of the website, including stored enquiries and comments, are backed up to secure cloud storage. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure, fast and recoverable.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the website and communicate with you, and only as far as necessary: our web hosting and website maintenance providers, our email provider, our backup storage provider, and the third-party services described above where you have accepted their cookies. We may also disclose information if the law requires us to.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of these providers, such as Google, are based in or process data in countries outside the UK, including the United States. Where this happens we rely on UK adequacy regulations (including the UK-US data bridge for certified organisations) or on approved safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep your information

We keep enquiry and booking details only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and stay, and afterwards for as long as is reasonably necessary for our accounts, insurance and legal obligations. We review stored enquiries regularly and delete those we no longer need. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments stay on the website until you ask us to remove them or we delete the post. Analytics data is retained according to the settings in our Google Analytics account.
